Hot Damn It's a Roller Derby Movie: Whip It

Media_httpwwwzap2itcommediaphoto20091049597283jpgtitleellenpagein27whipit27_xixdqgzoqztdxbe

I love roller derby and Austin is one of the best places to find it. So my only problem with Whip It is that even though its set here in Austin, it was primarily filmed in Michigan...which is kinda like trying to find good Texas BBQ in Detroit.

The movie was supposed to filmed here in the ATX, but Michigan ponied up some sweet tax breaks and stole it from us. If Austin as a city can't land actual film production here, then folks we have a problem. Plus, I would have sincerely loved to see Drew, Ellen and Kristen roaming around our fair city.

Beer Musings: Black Butte Porter

Black Butte Porter - Deschutes Brewery
A little thin for a porter. Not as full flavored as I would expect. 3 stars (out of 5)

The End of the Dillo - Our First Attraction to Austin TX

Downtowndillo

All I can honestly say is that this sucks! The Dillo was one of the very first icons of charm that led our family to relocate from Washington DC to Austin. Sure they're uncomfortable to ride in, but they helped us visitors to quickly get around downtown and explore this great city. With their demise, I feel we're losing something more.

And if I could take a baseball bat to the incompetence of Capital Metro, I would...and I doubt I'd be alone.
